What a day! Our excellent teacher in Milano, Sharon Hecker(she looks just like my sister in law) showed us the Renaissance art of the city and here that means Da Vinci. This morning we saw a mysterioso ceiling painting by Leonardo that I had never even heard of. It is in terrible shape because it was whitewashed and used as a stable. The poor frescoed ceiling is not in great shape today but looking at it is still astonishing. Also saw the magnificent Last Supper. I did not really expect to be awed by it because I have seen it reproduced so many times. It is magnificent in person. It has amazing patterns in the hands and facial expressions that are invisible in reproductions. Saw a few other DaVincis, a Caravaggio, and delightful cartoons for the fresco in the vatican, The School of Athens. Oh and I almost forgot, Michelangelo's last, and unfinished, pieta, the Rondanini Pieta....very moving. Also had Gelato and made a second visit to Zucca, the best bar/coffee place on earth...no I was not drinking coffee either. It was light and bubbly Proseco with Nil, Joni, Alexx, Kalia, And Eun Woo. Fun! A small picture of the painted ceiling is posted above. Be well and cheers from the ever enlightened mek
